4 booked as officials find their cakes short of disclosed weight | Crackdown on leading cake sellers | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 18: Four leading cake sellers in the city were today booked by a team of legal metrology department after their products were found short of the disclosed weight. Keeping in view the upcoming festivals, a team of officers of Legal Metrology comprising of Inspectors Rohit Gupta and Pooja Kumari conducted extensive checking of all the cake sellers in and around Jammu city and booked 4 prominent cake sellers for delivering 100 g to 120g less cake to the consumers by indulging in unethical trading practices. According to Dy Controller Legal Metrology Enforcement , M/s Premier Cake house, Residency Road, M/s Parveen Prov Store, Rehari, M/S Dayal Bakers, Rehari and M/S Cream & Craft, Canal Road, were booked for delivering short weigh cakes under relevant provision of law. Their modus operandi for delivering less to the consumers by way of adding the weight of board tray along with the weight of the cake was detected by the inspectors by becoming dummy consumers. They purchased 1 kg cake from these sellers and on weighing, it came to only 880 g to 900g and rest was the weight of the tray. The inspecting team enquired the rate of the tray which came to only 8 rupees thereby causing loss to gullible consumers to the tune of Rs 40 approx per Kg. The department has warned the traders to desist from such ill practices otherwise stern action will be initiated against them in future. |
