Jmu-Sgr Highway restored after 26 hours | | | Early Times Report
Banihal, Sept 23: The traffic on Jammu Srinagar highway restored today after 26 hours when the men and machinery impressed to clear the debris of landslides cleared it for normal traffic. Early Times Banihal Correspondent reported that traffic was suspended on Tuesday afternoon when landslides trigged on different places on highway resulting in the closure of highway. "Today when the improvement in weather was noticed, the BRO pressed its men and machinery and cleared the debris of slides from highway near Gangroo, Ramsoo, Nashri, Khari udhumpur and other locations along the highway, reports said. They added after the clearance of BEACON the traffic police first allow the stranded vehicles to move ahead towards their destinations and then allowed the fresh traffic from Jammu and Srinagar. DTI (Traffic) Banihal Gulzar Ahmed said, "Hundred of vehicles got stranded on Tuesday afternoon when heavy rains trigged the landslides on National Highway NH-1A. "The passenger vehicles as well as the load carriers which were stranded on different places on highway took a sigh of relief after traffic police allowed them to ply further. "Stranded passengers have reasons to smile as majority of them were on their way to home for the auspicious Eid celebrations, he added. An office of BRO said that it was very difficult for them to clear the road on Tuesday night because of continuous raining and falling of stones and slides from hill side. |
