Be it beef ban or pilgrim tax, BJP will continue `flirtation' with PDP | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 23: BJP is not in a mood to have any controversy with PDP on any issue even though it may harm the party's political interests in the State. Despite many controversies marring the coalition right from the day first it took over the reins of government BJP wants to play safe and does not want to give any credence to controversies which took place in the last over seven months of coalition. To defuse the situation, BJP senior leaders from Delhi including Party national general secretary Ram Madhav who is in charge of J&K and Party national vice president, Avinash Rai Khanna arrived here on a day's tour to discuss the prevailing political situation with State Party leadership and also chalk out future strategy on how to tide over the crisis. Sources said soon after their arrival the two national leaders convened the Party's Core Committee meeting which was followed by two subsequent meetings one with ministers from the party and the other with party legislators. According to reliable sources, the controversial issues like levying of Sales Tax on Chopper services to Mata Vaishno Devi and other Hindu shrines and beef ban issue came under discussion in all the three meetings with some Party leaders showing their serious concern over it. Sources said some of the leaders in all the three meetings made it clear that BJP is in a piquant situation as it could not revoke the decision of imposing ST on pilgrims of Mata Vaishno Devi and enforce ban on beef sale. They urged the party leadership to take a strong step on these two issues otherwise Party's position will become awkward in the State. Sources however said that the national leadership did not show any interest and urged the State leadership to find out the ways of averting the controversies as the same was must for smooth functioning of the coalition. Sources said the BJP leadership was also given instructions to avoid controversy over beef issue and allow the situation to prevail as was before the HC order. Sources said that both Madhav and Khanna were confident of smooth sailing of coalition and they gave instructions to the partymen to have a better coordination in their rank and file and alter on organizational level with PDP as the same was must for smooth sailing of things. Both Madhav and Khanna who talked to reporters on the sidelines of the two meetings were of the opinion that the coalition will run and the meeting was held to review the functioning of alliance. However Khanna showed his displeasure with the disengagement of Additional Advocate General and Deputy Advocate General by the government yesterday after the beef controversy surfaced and said that BJP was not consulted in this regard. He said that the BJP is displeased over the decision and the party will take up the issue with the appropriate forum. However, Madhav and Khanna did not give any impression that there was an immediate threat to the coalition, saying all the issues would be sorted out. |
