Beef ban proving costlier for PDP | Caught between devil and deep sea, party leadership speaking in different voices | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report srinagar, Sept 23: The high court ruling seems to have put the ruling PDP in a tight spot with its leadership speaking over the issue in different tones. The statements coming out from party's spokesman, general secretary and parliament member from Srinagar have added chaos to the already perturbed situation. What is more concerning for the party is that it is yet to come out with the clear stand over the high court order wherein ban has been imposed over the sale of beef in Jammu and Kashmir. The government spokesman Naeem Akhtar, otherwise known for his detailed statements has left the party in lurch as he is out of the state for performing Hajj. The former NC man and PDP's current spokesman Dr Mehboob Beg is apparently yet to understand that issue and is dodging the question of party's stand every day after. The general secretary of the PDP Nizam-ud-din Bhat has not made a single statement through which party's position could have been cleared. Interestingly, it was the member Parliament and senior PDP leader Tariq Hamid Karra who added confusion to the perplexed issue on Tuesdaywhile saying that the recent decision of High Court to ban beef in the state has the potential to change the public perception about judiciary in the state. "From past one and half years, the positive role played by judiciary in the public welfare issues like directing government to ensure proper rehabilitation of flood victims and forcing insurance companies to pay insured amount to the people has changed the perception among people about judiciary. But now after the beef ban order by the High Court, judiciary too is being viewed with negative perception," Karra said. Interestingly, he didn't use a single word that could have made the stand of the PDP clear before that masses of the state. Sources within the PDP said that the difference of opinion within the party leadership has made the situation a tormented one for the party as the absence of unanimity is coming to fore every day after- denting PDP's image before masses further. "In the absence of the PDP cheif Mehboba Mufti, chaos could be seen even within the party. As she is performing Hajj, her absence is deeply being felt as the series of statements, caring meagre sense is taking toll with no one really there to rein in the process," one of the party leader said while pleading anonymity. He added that what is more worrisome for the PDP is the forthcoming assembly session, during which the party has to come clear on its stand. "It is going to be a litmus test for all of us. We have to deliberate thoroughly so that our interests could somehow be saved," party's senior leader said. |
