Rajnath, Ram Madhav commend Mufti Govt; PDP law-makers condemn Modi, BJP | BJP defensive, PDP offensive | | ET Report Jammu, Sept 23: The PDP-BJP coalition is a strange type of coalition. They are in the government, but, at the same time, certain elements in both the parties take on each other. The only difference is that those in the PDP who take on the BJP are men of consequence and those in the BJP who try to take on the PDP are practically men of no consequence, as they are not taken seriously even by their own colleagues in the party. Another difference is that while BJP top ranking leaders and ministers commend the BJP-PDP coalition and working of the coalition government led by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the PDP top leadership fields some junior party leaders to tear into the BJP and the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre. However, one thing that is highly striking is that the BJP high command and the BJP-led NDA Government want that the coalition must remain intact at whatever cost, even at the cost of their self-respect. It's not true of the PDP. It always holds its ground firmly and says what is consistent with its ideology, philosophy and approach towards the issues facing the state. There is hardly any instance which one could cite to prove that the PDP has ever deviated from its core agenda. The fact is that while the BJP has all along been on the defensive, the PDP has all through been on the offensive and the result is that while the BJP has been losing political space in Jammu province, the PDP has been winning confidence of Kashmiri people day by day by sticking to its core ideology and adopting Kashmir-centric policies. That the BJP is defensive and PDP offensive could be seen from what happened on Monday at New Delhi, Ghagwal (Samba) and Srinagar. At New Delhi, Ram Madhav blamed media for creating an impression that the people in Jammu & Kashmir were unhappy with the PDP-BJP coalition government and said that he was not disappointed with its performance. He in Facebook chat on Prime Minister Modi's US visit said that things in Jammu & Kashmir were not so bad as were being painted by the media. "Many are unhappy because of lack of correct information and also continuous misinformation courtesy some of you (media). Having said it I agree there is great scope for improving performance of the government," he said in response to one very significant observation. The observation reads like this: "You (Ram Madhav) were the architect of BJP's foray into J&K. Are you disappointed with the performance of the Mufti government so far. The Sangh seems unhappy. Many in the BJP are unhappy. People in the valley are unhappy. The Mufti feels suffocated. This is one marriage that doesn't seem to be working for anyone". At Ghagwal, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh went several steps further and gave hundred out of hundreds marks to the PDP-BJP coalition government. At Ghagwal, he addressed Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) jawans after inaugurating their newly constructed camp and had a brief interaction with media. When asked about the working of the PDP and BJP government in the state, he said that "it is running fine". He, unlike Ram Madhav, BJP national general secretary, didn't say that "there is great scope for improving performance of the government". The truth is that both the Union Home Minister and BJP national general secretary were on the defensive. They suppressed the truth only to please the PDP and ensure that the BJP remained in power in the State. On the other hand, the same day, not one but three PDP MLAs trained guns at the Narendra Modi's government and the BJP. They were Muhammad Khalil Band, Zahoor Ahmad Mir and Abdul Rahim Rather. They attacked New Delhi and the BJP and accused them of being anti-Kashmir. The PDP condemned the BJP for endorsing the "fascist viewpoint of Sangh Parivar and other Hindu extremist organizations on issues like beef ban" and said "our coalition ally and BJP Government in Centre is adopting step-motherly treatment towards Muslim-dominated regions while being biased towards Hindu-dominated Jammu region". Earlier, senior PDP leader and MP and former Finance Minister Tariq Hamid Karra had also attacked New Delhi and the BJP and urged Mufti Sayeed to snap ties with the BJP. |
