Centre to soon release package for flood-hit' | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 14: Jammu and Kashmir Chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has been -reassured by the central government that financial package for the people affected by 2014 flood would be announced soon. Mufti was "also assured that in addition to the package for flood-affected people, another package for major boost to development would also be linked to it, sources told Early Times. On Wednesday, the Chief Minister reached New Delhi to meet senior ministers in the central government with regard to the announcement of the financial package. "The state government is getting some sort of difficult in getting the package cleared on account of wrong and miscalculation of damages by the previous Omar Abdullah government which pegged the losses at Rs 43,000 crores. The NITI Ayog has now calculated it to the tune of Rs 11000 crores only," said sources. "The biggest problem we are having in convincing the central government is about the actual losses. Omar Abdullah had prepared made the whole case so badly. So we had to prepare a fresh report about the losses; this is the reason it is taking time, but the Modi government has said the package will be announced shortly," said a senior state official. Mufti is also likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss host of issues besides the financial package. Sources said the CM is likely to confirm the visit of the PM to the state after he was extended an invitation by the Deputy CM Nirmal Singh when he called on the PM earlier this month. "Mufti's meeting with Modi is important as it comes in the backdrop of the controversy over Dadri incident and growing voices against the PM. Mufti may give suggestions to the PM to tide over the crisis and PM is very serious to discuss them with Mufti who is the only Muslim CM in the country," said the sources. |
