SRINAGAR, Oct 14: Health Minister Chaudhary Lal Singh believes more in rhetoric and less in action since the un-registered hospitals and nursing homes continue to function in the summer capital of the State. This is despite the fact that a committee has been formed in this regard.
Valley Ortho Craft Nursing Home located in the Bishember Nagar area is functioning without any registration for the past six years or so. The registration of this nursing home had expired in 2009 and since then the registration has not been renewed. However, despite the expiry of registration the nursing home is carrying out its functioning without any directives from the concerned authorities to stop the same.
Sources told Early Times that the owner of the Valley Ortho Craft Nursing Home has been applying for the renewal of the registration over the past few years but the same has been rejected. The owner who is a reputed orthopaedician of the State had even threatened to go to court for seeking renewal of the registration of the nursing home.
"The renewal of the registration of the nursing home was rejected since it did not fulfill the criteria laid down by the Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir. But to the utter dismay no action whatsoever was taken against the owner of the nursing home and it was never sealed since it flouted the norms," said sources.
Sources said that some time back the owner of the nursing home threatened the higher ups of the Health Department of dire consequences in case the process of renewal of registration of the nursing home is not expedited. He had in fact threatened to take extreme step in case there is delay in the renewal in the registration of nursing home.
"For the past six years or so the nursing home has been in news for bad reasons, but still then the authorities have failed to act against the owner of nursing home. Once some punitive action is taken then it would have become a deterrent for the other un-registered nursing homes operating not only in the Kashmir valley but also in Jammu division," said sources.
It would be in place to mention here that the Government had formed a five member panel to look into mushrooming of un-registered private hospitals and nursing homes in Kashmir valley. Interestingly one of the committee members is indirectly involved with the Valley Ortho Craft Nursing Home. Two sons of this committee member are the silent partners in the nursing home and this has cast a shadow on the credibility of this committee.
"Zahid Rashid Badoo and Imdad Ali Badoo sons of Dr. Abdul Rashid Badoo are silent partners in the nursing home. Dr. Badoo is one of the members of the committee formed to regulate the functioning of the nursing homes and private hospitals in the Kashmir valley. Since Dr. Badoo's sons are silent partners in the nursing home how can one expect him to be fair in the job assigned to him," said sources.
