CM’s intervention likely as ABVP controversy widens, mistrust between JU VC, DyCM | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 14: The high voltage controversy over ABVP event on the campus, which led to closure of the Jammu University for a day, has further widened the mistrust between Vice-Chancellor Prof RD Sharma and the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh. In private, both of them are holding each other responsible for the un-necessary controversy and consequent events, which were unprecedented in the history of Jammu University as well as the ABVP. Even as DyCM was neither invited for the event nor he was among the organizers, sources said that the Vice-Chancellor RD Sharma has the impression that ABVP activists were instigated by Dr Nirmal Singh to create trouble on the campus by insisting for holding the Student Leaders Conference in Jammu University only. However, on the other hand, Dr Nirmal Singh has also come to know from some reliable sources that the Vice-Chancellor Prof RD Sharma refused to grant permission to ABVP for holding the event, particularly to send a message to the Dy CM that being head of an autonomous institution, he could not be cowed down. It may be recalled that only a fortnight ago, RD Sharma, in a public function in presence of Dr Nirmal Singh, had stated that he was under intense pressure from political bosses to make compromises for wrongs in the Jammu University. He was allegedly making indirect reference to the Government pressure for regularizing the services of Dr Nirmal Singh's wife, Mamta Singh, who is temporarily engaged in the Home Sciences Department of the JU, sources said. The fresh controversy over ABVP event has not only further intensify the war of ego between the two Professors of JU, who are presently holding the position of VC and Dy CM as sources hint about possible intervention of Pro-Chancellor and Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed into the university affairs through his Advisor Prof Amitabh Mattoo in the next few days. |
