Army Commando, Militant killed near LoC in Krishna Ghati Sector | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Oct 14: An army commando and a militant were killed in an on-going gunfight at Krishna Ghati sector of Mendhar in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. Official sources told that Sepoy Lance Naik Govind Singh of 9 Para regiment was critically injured when the alleged infiltrators fired upon army's search party after being challenged at forward area in Balnoie of KG sector. Singh, who was hit on the chest, was immediately evacuated to nearby medical institute from where he was airlifted to military hospital Udhampur. However, Singh was declared brought dead on arrival by the doctors, they said. Singh, a resident of Uttrakhand was part of army party carrying out a search operation near the LoC when the incident occurred, they said. The searches were launched by the army's 1st Mahar and 9 PARA near Tiba and Tilla posts following inputs about the information that militants were planning to infiltrate in this part of Kashmir via them, they said. Army's Udhampur based senior defence spokesperson SD Goswami while confirming the death of the army man said that the alert army unit manning the fence foiled the infiltration attempt in the area. The official said that the troopers engaged the group of infiltrators in an encounter. "So far a militant has been killed in the on-going gunfight", the official said. |
