JAMMU, Oct 14: The Excise Commissioner, J&K Government Tsering Angchuk convened review meeting of Excise and Taxation Department here today to take stock of the over-all growth scenario of the revenue receipts of the Department for the month of September and total revenue realized till September for the financial year 2015-16. It was apprised that the revenue realization of the Department is going in an upward direction viz-a-viz revenue targets fixed for the Department for the financial year 2015-16. The total revenue realized by the Excise Department during September 2015-16 has been recorded to the tune of Rs. 99.14 Crores in comparison to the 73.17 Crores realized during August, 2014-15. It is informed that the Department has to realize monthly revenue of 97.38 Crores per month to achieve a target of 1168.60 Crores fixed for the financial year 2015-16, which is being tapped. Department realized an amount of Rs. 557.50 Crores against Rs. 488.55 Crores up to September, 2014-15. Regarding Eradication and Enforcement activity, the Excise Commissioner appreciated the comprehensive drive launched by the Excise Department to arrest the menace of illegal smuggling of liquor, illicit distillation and other violations of the J&K Excise Act, 1958, especially over charging and Toll evasion. The Excise Commissioner was apprised that last six months, nakas were laid on various national highways to check the Toll evasion, smuggling of illicit liquor and recovery of Rs.2,95,000.00 as fine from the toll evaders during the period. Simultaneously, more than 1927 raids have been conducted in the entire Jammu division to arrest the menace of illegal smuggling of liquor from other States, illicit distillation of liquor and other violations. In the process seventy two persons were arrested and cases have been lodged in various Courts of Law against the accused persons for illegal smuggling of liquor meant for sale in other States, illicit distillation of liquor and other ancillary offences. More than 19,075 Kgs of Lahan, meant for manufacturing illicit liquor and 39 working stills have been destroyed in the entire Jammu Division by the Excise sleuths who have conducted surprise raids in various areas to arrest the menace of illicit distillation. In the process 435 bottles of illicit liquor have also been destroyed on spot. In the process bhang on 6724 kanals of land and poppy on 83 kanals of land has been destroyed so far. At Lakhanpur Toll Post 12,149 willow clefts, 13 Kgs Bukhi, 8670 Kgs of Polythene, 780 bottles of drugs and 19,025 Kgs of herbs have been seized during the last six months and a fine to the tune of Rs. 16.76 lacs has been imposed on offenders. During the meeting, all the officers of the Department were impressed to maintain strict vigil to improve revenue realization and work hard to generate revenue for the State. All the Deputy Excise Commissioners and Excise and Taxation Officers were present in the meeting. |
