Ergonomics of machnie guarding | | | Dr. Manzoor Ahamd Yetoo
There are mainly four areas of safety which must be consid ered with every machine; 1) Maintenance necessitating some part of the body being in the part of machine movement. 2) Protection from machine movements during operation at the point of operation. 3) Protection of operators at the point of operation. 4) Servicing, adjustment, maintenance and repair which must be done dynamically, perhaps with guards temporarily removed and other safety devices by passed. GUARDING DURING MAINTENANACE; For maintenance ,it is vital that the machine be put into a state in which possibility of its making unexpected movement, and thus causing injury is reduced to a practical minimum. The procedure most commonly recognized for this is that of LOCK OFF or locking out .Between these two extremists there is a complete soectu of individual interpretations. The result is that a machine that is locked off by one employee may not necessarily be in a safe as a condition to work on as one that has locked off by another.yet the same term is used by booth. Alocked out machine however might still be capable of injuring or killing some one who is working in on or around it.Thus one must consider for more than merely lock out electrical energy in trying to achieve maximum protection for machine operations and machine and service, depending upon type of equipment involved one must consider in addition to electric power, the following additional sources of energy. i) Hydraulic fluids under pressure ii) Compressed air. iii) Energy stored in springs. iv) Potential energy from suspended parts. V) Another source that might cause unexpected mechanical movement. CONCLUSION; Good maintenance of machines and guards is very important for safe working and efficient production. Machines should always be used within their rated capacities, as other wise some form of defect or mechanical failure can occur which may cause an accident.Un safe actions of persons working on machine can be rectified by proper training and supervisions.
