Divisive forces will be defeated, says divisive Mirwaiz
Trifurcation slogan effect

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 1: The elections results in Leh, which witnessed the Congress, the PDP and the NC biting dust on October 23, and the loud clamour in Jammu province for trifurcation of the state into Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh States, have not only rattled the Valley-based and pro-autonomy parties like the Congress, the NC and the CPI-M, but also separatists like Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. The BJP, which has become thoroughly unpopular in Jammu province because of its acts of omission and commission and Kashmir-centric policies, won the Leh Council elections last month on the Union Territory status slogan. It won 18 out of 25 Council seats it contested in the 30-member Council consisting of 26 elected members and four nominated members. The Congress could win only 4 seats and the NC. The remaining one seat was won by an independent candidate. The PDP, which fielded candidates in eight seats, failed to open its account.
The Congress, the NC and the CPI all attributed the victory of the BJP in Leh to its divisive politics or to the UT status slogan and charged the BJP with playing communal games to fulfill the RSS' urge for trifurcation of the state. The RSS had in 2002 floated Jammu State Morcha which contested the Assembly election in Jammu province that year on the statehood-for-Jammu plank. In fact, the RSS had then adopted a resolution demanding statehood for Jammu province and UT status for Ladakh, saying the division of the state was needed to meet the needs and aspirations of the people of these two regions, where the people always complained that they never got their due share in the governance of the state and that it was Kashmir that had established its domination and hegemony over everything in the state. Reflecting on the poll outcome in Leh, the Congress, the NC and the CPI-M leadership in one voice condemned the BJP-RSS combine and declared that they will not allow anyone to tinker with the unity and integrity of the state.
And, last Friday, the rabble-rouser, divisive and Pakistani agent Mirwaiz Umar Farooq condemned the demand in Jammu for the state's trifurcation. He said certain divisive forces have become quite active to ensure the division of the state and isolate Kashmir Valley for dubious purposes and asserted that the divisive forces will be defeated and the unity and integrity of the state maintained at any cost.
Reiterating that Kashmir was a political issue that needed a political resolution, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who wants trilateral talks between India, Pakistan and "the real Kashmiri leadership" (in this case separatists like him) to resolve the Kashmir issue, said the "trifurcation" of the state will not be allowed at any cost and "divisive forces will be defeated". "Conspiracies are being hatched to divide J&K. We will fight these conspiracies tooth and nail. We will not allow divisive forces to succeed,"he said while addressing a rally at Kangan Chowk in Ganderbal district, and added that the RSS and "fascist" forces were hell-bent on dividing J&K. "They must not forget that people of the state are conscious enough to understand their divisive plans," he said, adding that the "present (PDP-BJP) regime is running the agenda of fascist forces".
The fact that Mirwaiz made trifurcation a major issue during his speech only indicated the extent to which he and others of his ilk have been rattled and alarmed. The reasons are obvious and one of the reasons is that division of the state would end Kashmiri imperialism. Kashmir Valley is a very small part of the state, only less than 12 per cent. It has been thriving and making all round progress at the cost of Jammu and Ladakh, who suffer at the hands of Kashmir, but contribute more than 70 per cent revenue to the state exchequer.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Panthers Party only recently adopted a resolution demanding separate Jammu Pradesh. Besides, there are many leaders in the BJP who support the trifurcation demand.
