Govt to scuttle million march, detains separatists

Srinagar, Nov 1: Working on MHA directives to scuttle all possible attempts of separatists to hold a counter rally on November 7, the state government hopeful of a sound economic package has launched crackdown against separatists.
Authorities have launched crackdown against all separatist leaders to scuttle Geelani’s “Million March” Coinciding with that Prime Minister,Narendra Modi’s public rally on November 7.
The police have already detained Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai along with Altaf Ahmad Shah and the spokesperson Ayaz Akbar from their residences last night. Sources said that JKLF chairman Mohammad Yaseen Malik, Democratic Freedom Party chief Shabir Ahmad Shah and several separatist leaders were detained late last night and early today by police along with their associates. They have been lodged in police station Kothibagh. Police have also detained separatist leaders from North and South Kashmir including one Imtiyaz Hyder from his residence in Budgam early today, Muhammad Lone, Saif Ud Din, Habib Ullah, Gh Hassan Malik, Haji Gh Mohammad Mir, Ali Muhammad, all from Kupwara and Engineer Farooq from Anantnag last late evening.
The Police has also launched a massive crackdown against separatist leaders in Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian districts. Sources said that authorities are monitoring content on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter propagating “Million March” call of separatist leaders.
They said that Police may also block several pages on Facebook and detain People circulating rumors and propagating anti rally attempts of separatists as proposed by Hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Saturday. Pertinently Chief Minister, Mufti Muhammad Syed on Thursday and state’s Finance Minister,Dr Haseeb Drabu on Friday indicated sound economic package from Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Ahead of Prime Minister’s proposed visit to Jammu and Kashmir, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday asked Jammu and Kashmir government to keep a “close watch on activities of separatist leaders.”
Sources said that on the directions of the Home Minister, Rajnath Singh the MHA has directed the Jammu and Kashmir government to keep close eye on the activities of separatist leaders including Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
PDP and BJP office bearers are using all means to Challenge anti rally attempts of separatists and according to sources have already started a move to mobilize people in their respective areas. Notably moderate Faction of Separatist led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today announced their Support to already Proposed “Million March” call by Syed Ali Shah Geelani on November 7 to scuttle proposed public rally of Prime Minister Narendra first time in Srinagar after he became the Prime Minister of the country.
