| BGSBU may ignore local media on CM’s visit | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Nov 1: On November 2 Chief Minister and Pro-Chancellor Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) is scheduled to visit the university first time after scholarship, financial irregularity scams, student’s strike for probe into the scams/financial irregularities and replacing of the `tainted’ Registrar.
The university as usual did not invite the local journalists to cover the visit of the Chief Minister.
The local media, it may be mentioned has been highlighting the irregularities in the university much to the discomfort of the authorities.
Sources said that besides reportedly laying foundation of girl’s hostel , the Chief Minister will review the functioning of the BGSBU which is his dream project.
Last time Chief Minister visited the University on June 6 and had appealed to the policymakers to meet the burgeoning demand of professionals in the global job market and had laid stress on broadening the scope of higher education in the State by starting market-driven courses in Universities.
He had also emphasized that modalities should be worked out for time-bound completion of infrastructural projects so that intake capacity of the students is increased.
But the situation this time is a bit different.
Prof I,A Hamal,Vice Chancellor ,who faced tough time at the end of his tenure, has been replaced by noted personality Prof Javed Musarrat, university facing the heat of scholarship scam and reported corruption in various university funds. Police as well as internal inquiries are going on snail is pace and people of the region smell that all the process is being focused to save the former Registrar Mohd Rashid Chowdhry who, as the authorities’ claims, have been sent on forced leave. But as per university source ,not to be named, he has proceeded on leave and may join the university soon as ‘Officer on Special Duty’ as was shifted to this post after several days protests by the students. BGSBU administration vide order No BGSBU/Reg/15/5343-5379 dt 22/8/15 Mohd Rashid Chowdhary, holding the substantive post of Registrar is transferred and along with substantive post and posted as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the office of VC till further orders.
The University runs on funds made available by the UGC under 12th plan funding, Shahdra Shrief Shrine, State Government and funds collected from student’s fee. Students were demanding complete audit of these accounts as ,besides scholarship scam, they were also apprehending large scale corruption in these funds. What would be the priorities of the Chief Minister as a Chancellor of BGSBU it will be make public after his visit but people of Pir Panjal Region expecting some action against those who have defamed the pious name of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah a noted Sufi Saint after whose name University was established.
Altaf Bukhari, PWD Minister, had assured stringent action against University accused who has/have defamed the highest institution of learning in Pir Panjal region (BGSBU) while Nayeem Akhter,Education Minister and Prof A Matoo had assured the students about fair and free investigation.
