Legalize operations or face music: Govt to cable operators | Digital India | | Asif Iqbal Naik

Kishtwar, Nov 1: Taking strong note about cable operators running their operations 'illegally', government has given a final ultimatum to them to legalize their enterprises. The operators have been asked to get their cable networks registered and pay the entertainment tax regularly in accordance to J&K Entertainment Duty Act, 1959. Documents in possession of Early Times reveal that notice issued by Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive)Jammu Muhammad Shahid Saleem vide No. SRO/DECEJ/Exc/5994-6002 Dated 31-10-2015 directed all the cable TV operators operating in Jammu division to comply with the directions of providing the entertainment tax regularly in accordance to J&K Entertainment Duty Act, 1959 and rules framed there under. The notice states that if cable operators fail to legalize their operations FIR would be registered against them following which their TV Network would be blacklisted. "Whereas SRO 121 of 2002 Dated 27-03-2002 provides that the rate of entertainment duty leviable, on persons admitted to entertainment Duty ACT, 1959 shall be 50% of the amount of payment charged for admission to such entertainment," the notice states. |
