Congress calls for secretariat gherao on Nov 9 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
VIJAYPUR, Nov 1: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) today appealed its workers to reach winter capital on November 9 to gherao Civil Secretariat against the attempts to disrupt peace among the communities. Chairing a meeting of party workers in Vijaypur, former minister and JKPCC general secretary Manjit Singh discussed various issues with the party workers. During the meeting, Manjit Singh appealed the people and especially party workers to reach Jammu on November 9, the day of opening of civil secretariat in the winter capital to gherao the secretariat. He informed that this decision was taken by the party in view of increasing resentment among the people against the failure of the coalition BJP-PDP government in Jammu and Kashmir. “They had assured development in the State and allegedly created differences among the people and mistrust,” he said, adding that the same forces talked about division of the state. Under this government, he said, sense of insecurity among the people has increased which is not good for the state and it would take Jammu and Kashmir to ‘stone-age’. He said that whether it is the issue of NYC, unemployed educated youth, SPO’s, PHE –Irrigation workers or price hike, on all the fronts the government has failed and have no such policy to deal with the present crises. He said that the Government should understand the difficulties of the border residents facing firing from Pakistan and they have not been given five marla plots as per the assurances and announcements. On the one side there is price rise of essential commodities, and on the other, the farmers are not given adequate price for their produce by the Government.
