sRINAGAR, Nov 1: Authorities today said that sufficient amount of essentials including food items, kerosene, cooking gas, firewood and medicines have been stocked ahead of winter season in Ladakh region, which remains cut off from the rest of the country for around six months due to snow. An official spokesperson here today said 11,314 Metric Tonnes (Mts) of rice, 11,340 Mts of flour, 400 Mts of sugar has been stocked in Ladakh. He said 8115 Mts of rice, 4404 Mts of flour, 578 Mts of Sugar, 3310 Klts of kerosene has been stocked in Leh. Besides, 1,33,654 gas cylinders have also been dispatched to these districts, he added. Meanwhile, the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway, connecting the region with Kashmir remained through for traffic as the weather remained dry. However, traffic was disrupted for about two days recently due to snowfall at Sonmarg, Zojila and Meenmarg. In the past, the highway used to be officially closed from November 1 every year. However, for the past few years, the highway remains open till there is snowfall or slippery road conditions due to sub zero temperature. |
