| As police tighten noose, drug mafia change strategy | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 1 : It seems that the active drug mafia has changed the strategy after police tightened noose around. Now they do not carry large quantities of psychotropic substance with them. As Inspector General of Police (IGP) Danesh Rana has issued special instructions and special teams have started yielding good results.
According to sources, the active drug mafia whose most of the members were grilled by the police have changed their style of working just to avoid legal action.
“Kingpin even have started avoiding carrying huge quantities with them’, said a police source adding that the middle rung suppliers also have started avoiding carrying large quantity of the psychotropic substance with them.
“It cannot be denied that some senior police officers used to shield the drug mafia in lieu of huge money as the business of drug peddling is very profitable which made the smugglers rich overnight”, said a police officer wishing anonymity.
Around 71 cases of NDPS Act have been registered against 37 registered till September 31, 2014, which shows that the smuggling of psychotropic substances has increased more than twice in the Jammu district in the nine months period of 2015.
