Historic Mughal road remains closed, Kashmir highway through | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 6: The historic Mughal road remained closed while the national highway, connecting the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was through for traffic. Meanwhile, a traffic police official denied the reports that there would be any restriction on traffic movement on the highway tomorrow during Prime Minister Narendra Modis visit to Jammu and Kashmir. However, he said on November 8, there will be only one-way traffic from Srinagar to Jammu to allow smooth movement of vehicles, carrying government employees shifting from summer capital to winter capital, Jammu, where the Durbar Move, seat of the government will reopen on Monday. The highway will remain open for both ways, he said and dismissed the reports that highway was being closed tomorrow for security reasons. He said due to accumulation of one to two feet of snow and danger of avalanche and landslides, the Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region, remained closed for the third day today. He said local administration has already started snow clearance operation to put through the road, being seen as alternative to Srinagar-Jammu highway. Vehicles, stranded at some places on the highway will be allowed to move towards their respective destinations once a green signal is received, he said, adding that allowing fresh traffic will depend upon the condition of the road. |
