BJP leaders erect 25 hoardings, ask PDP, PC to project rally as joint show of strength | No party flags inside SK Stadium | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 6: Workers and activists of the various political parties who would be attending the rally of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi at SK Stadium here on Saturday may not be allowed to carry flags of their respective parties inside the venue. Sources told Early Times security agencies have conveyed it to the leaders of various parties that flags cannot be allowed due to security reasons. "All the political parties, including Peoples Democratic Party, Peoples Conference and other small parties had asked their workers to bring the party flags along so that their presence could be felt on the ground," sources added. They said that Kashmir based BJP leaders feared that there may not be many saffron flags at the venue as they have not been able to rope in the people who would carry the BJP flags. They (BJP leaders) have erected at least 25 small, medium and large hoardings at the major spots that include TRC, Gupkar Road, Dalgate, and Ram Munshibagh. "Security is not the only reason for flags not being allowed inside the venue. If the designated party workers fail to reach the venue, a few battalions of policemen have been kept at stand by so that cops in civvies can fill in the space to ensure that PM addresses a full house ," said a source. Insiders revealed that people supervising the arrangements for the PM's rally are not ready to take any chances and a few BJP leaders have got it conveyed to organizers that they should not stress on participants carrying flags as it would create a divide. "BJP leaders requested PDP and PC leaders not to make flags an issue so that rally looks like joint show of strength," they added. "They (BJP leaders) are desperate to prove it to the Prime Minister that they have managed the show and police not allowing the flags inside the venue would surely help their cause," said a source. Meanwhile, hundreds of Peoples Conference, led by separatist turned mainstream politician Sajad Lone, have arrived in the summer capital from north Kashmir and many PDP workers from different corners of the Valley have reached Srinagar. " All the arrangements to make PM's rally a success have been made and security has been beefed up to ensure that no untoward incident takes place,' sources added. They said that Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is being briefed about the arrangements regularly. "It would be a huge gathering as organizers have not taken any chances," sources added.
