People deprived of 'govt ration' for last 3 months | | | Early Times Report
rajouri, Nov 9: Despite tall claims of sufficient ration and introduction of supply of ration at government depots and private ration dealer's shops as per 2011 census, the beneficiaries of Public Distribution System in Rajouri district are deprived from getting normal ration supply for the last few months especially sugar for the last 3 months. Irked over non supply of govt ration the residents of Thanamandi and its adjoining areas held a protest in front of Office of Tehsil Supply Officer (TSO) while alleging that no ration was supplied to them for the last three months. Protestors including Tanveer Ahmed Mohd Mustaq said that for the last few months they have been continuously approaching the concerned officials for their problems but instead taking any action they are taking the matter casually. A similar protest was staged by inhabitants of Budhal and its adjoining areas in October alleging that the people of the area facing many problems as the ration was not available at government shops. People have also warned to intensify protest if the department fails to provide ration to the poor people soon. When contacted Anwar Mirza, TSO told media persons that they (Department) have been getting limited supply of ration from Jammu which was the main reason behind irregular supply of ration to the beneficiaries in this area. Here it needs to mention that it was first week of September, when the State Government had formally started distribution of rations in the state as per 2011 census and this claimed to be a beginning of a series of reforms in the CAPD department. Besides this it was also claimed that the government is contemplating to implement National Food Security Act besides digitization of the entire procurement and distribution system. Meantime official sources said that Government of India (GoI) has made it clear that unless NFSA was implemented, the state will not get food grains as per 2011 census and had directed those States, which had resisted implementation of NFSA, to complete the necessary formalities and implement the act by September end. As per the Government of India, allocation of food grains under Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) is made to the states which have implemented the Act whereas J&K state yet has not implemented the Act so for and is getting food grains as per census population of 2001. As per some media reports on November 8, while chairing a high level meeting , Ch Zulfikar Ali, CAPD Minister has indicated that soon J&K government is likely to implement NFSA in the State and preparation for that are in full swing. |
