Why is highest seat of governance lately losing its sheen…? | Civil Sectt reopens on dull, subdued note | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 9: Civil Secretariat reopened here today on subdued and dull note with little or no hustle and bustle in the premises which used to be the hallmark in previous years. The Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed too deviated from the earlier precedence of interacting with media on the reopening of Durbar every year in the winter capital, leaving media representatives high and dry. As the announced dates earlier, the civil secretariat along with the other offices reopened on the scheduled day today but it lacked the routine lustre and sheen seen normally on the first day when Durbar is received with age old rituals and ceremonies of formal welcome. While everything was in place with respect to arrangements for the welcome including a ceremonial guard of honour, the whole ceremony today lacked usual busy look on the very first day. While the Chief Minister reached the premises well in time, the ceremonial welcome with guard of honour that awaited him was completed in a very swift manner, giving it more look of a completing just the formality, even as his council of ministers apart from top brass of Police and Administration were present on the occasion. Soon after the Guard of Honour, the Chief Minister went straight to his office. However, later in the day, sources said he called a meeting of ministers and bureaucrats to refresh the things with regard to functioning of the coalition government from the point these were left in Srinagar around two weeks back, as the government remained preoccupied with the preparations for Prime Minister Narinder Modi's visit to state. The Civil Secretariat premises also looked dull and desolate today as the strength of employees and officers too was not full on the first days which is attributed to various reasons by the authorities. Nor did all the ministers made their presence for the entire day. The absence of the ministers from their chambers is something which has assumed a sort of permanent feature for months, as most of the ministers from both the parties having stayed away from the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar too. Highly placed sources are attributing this one of the reasons for Civil Secretariat lately losing its sheen and lustre in terms of business and rush which once used to be the pride of the highest seat of governance. Will they repeat the trend here in Jammu too, remains to be seen ….! |
