Jammu, Nov 9: As district Samba has been fast emerging as an industrial hub and abode for new proposed projects of the Government including Central University of Jammu, All India Institute of Medical Sciences like institution, a new airport, major projects for road connectivity, the area is also becoming the hub of illegal activity. The sharks of the dark world have diverted their energy and resources towards district Samba and district administration is being flooded with complaints of illegal encroachment, constructions, trespassing, usurping of lands of the poor and have-nots.
The District Development Commissioner, Samba Sheetal Nanda, IAS, a young and energetic officer has been trying her best to address such complaints but the Politico-Businessmen-Landmafia nexus is so strong that whatever efforts she puts in seem to be a drop in the ocean.
The constructions on disputed sites, agricultural land, use of muscle power is order of the day and involved are who is who of Jammu and Kashmir. Despite hectic efforts by the District administrator illegal constructions, conversion of agricultural land in colonies is going on at lightening speed.
Only a concerted effort by the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and posting of honest, upright and no-nonsense officers can stop the rot. |
