Why NC leadership remained silent when autonomy resolution was thrown in dustbin? | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 9: Today former Chief Minister and working president of the National Conference, Omar Abdullah has tried to score political points over his arch rival Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by raking up the issue of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi's speech in Srinagar in which the Prime Minister had stated that his did not require anyone's advice on Kashmir. According to Omar Abdullah the Prime Minister has snubbed Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed while stating that he did not require any advice on Kashmir. But, Omar Abdullah, on his side, has forget when the BJP led NDA Government headed by Atal Behari Vajpayee, in which he himself was a minister, had thrown Assembly's autonomy resolution in a dustbin. The Autonomy resolution was passed unanimously by the State Assembly in which National Conference had two third majority in its command but the then NDA Government had thrown that resolution in the dustbin without even giving an eye to it. Today's NC leadership is observing that Prime Minister's announcement not to take any advice on Kashmir is an attempt to undermine a duly elected Chief Minister but when autonomy resolution was passed by the Assembly was thrown into a dustbin why was NC leadership remained silent on that point of time. NC had 60 MLAs and five MPs including a Minister in the Union Minister in its kitty, the party failed to take a stand of this issue. The then NDA Government in which NC was also a part had thrown the autonomy resolution the dustbin but despite humiliation, the party (NC) remained in the coalition just to enjoy the power. Throwing a resolution passed unanimously by the Assembly in a dustbin was an act to undermine the institution but NC remained tight-lipped at that time. But today NC leadership is observing a humiliation in PM's statement. "The NC Working President condemned how the Prime Minister snubbed an elected Chief Minister during his Public Meeting in Srinagar when the Prime Minister said he did not require anyone's advice on the Kashmir Issue after the Chief Minister's speech. The NC Working President said this was indicative of the systematic erosion of the institution of the Chief Minister under the present, incumbent Chief Minister and how despite his unending praise of the RSS and BJP - the Chief Minister stands discredited and snubbed by his own ally", a handout issued by the NC stated today. |
