BJP cheats people of Jammu yet again
AIIMS-like institution
11/10/2015 12:03:04 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 9: The BJP, which had been humiliating and leting down the people of Jammu province almost on a daily basis since last March, yet again cheated them on Saturday. The BJP had promised a full-fledged All-India Institute of Medical Sciences for Jammu not once but thrice. In February, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley made an announcement to this effect on the floor of the Lok Sabha and his announcement was instantly welcomed by MoS in the PMO, who also announced at Kathua that the "AIIMS was always meant for Jammu". He had made the statement following the highly obnoxious statement of BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh that "no one can snatch AIIMS from Kashmir and it will not be established in Jammu".
Later on, Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh himself gave in writing to certain AIIMS Coordination Committee members that AIIMS will be established in Jammu. He made commitment in writing to the ACC members with a view to motivating them not to give a call for Jammu bandh and withdraw the popular movement.
Not only the Deputy Chief Minister, Ram Madhav, BJP national general secretary and in-charge J&K, Avinash Rai Khanna, BJP national vice-president and Prabhari J&K, Jugal Kishore Sharma, state BJP president and who not on the BJP again and again reassured the agitating people of Jammu province that "AIIMS will be established in Jammu" and described the movement in Jammu for AIIMS as "Anti-BJP movement sponsored by the defeated parties". Ram Madhav and Khanna were two persons who did all that they could to seal the fate of Jammu.
On July 30, the Union Health Ministry wrote a letter to the state government asking it to identify 200 kanals of land for the establishment of AIIMS in Jammu and certain members of the ACC called off the movement on August 3 telling the people of Jammu province that they had got AIIMS. So much so, the shameless BJP leadership put up big hoardings at important public places to hoodwink and mislead the people of Jammu region. These hoardings congratulated the Prime Minister, Narindra Modi, for sanctioning AIIMS for Jammu. Not only this, the anti-Jammu BJP leadership organized in Jammu what it called "Dhnayabad Rally" in Jammu city.
That the assurances given by the various BJP leaders were false became abundantly clear on Saturday, when the Prime Minister said in Srinagar that AIIMS-like institutions will be created in capital cities of the state.
Remember, he earmarked Rs 4,900 crore "for improving healthcare facilities in the state which includes creation of two AIIMS-like institutions in capital cities of the State, and support for creation of infrastructure in hospitals and primary health centres". It forms part of the Rs 80,000 crore package that he announced with much fanfare at Srinagar.
Did the people of Jammu province fight for an AIIMS-like institution for months? No. They fought for a full-fledged AIIMS. By denying AIIMS to Jammu, the BJP has further lost its credibility in the eyes of the people.
