In Jammu, people celebrated the BJP's Bihar defeat | What an irony! | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 9: None in Jammu province had expected that the people of the region would ever celebrate the defeat of the BJP in the Bihar Assembly elections, but it actually happened on Sunday. The people cutting across party lines celebrated the defeat of the BJP in Bihar in general and of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in particular. They were so jubilant over the BJP's defeat that they said that "the BJP will meet the same fate in Jammu province in the next assembly elections". They denounced the agenda of alliance on the basis of which the coalition government was formed and they also asserted that "the BJP was the only party in the country which could compromise its ideology and outrage the sensitivities of its own constituency to prove its secular credentials". They further said that the "BJP makes false promises and its government at the centre has made the life of the people across the country miserable. In Kashmir, the Biharis also celebrated the defeat of the BJP and the victory of the Mahagathbandhan consisting of the JDU, the RJD and the Congress. Not only this, the Panthers Party, the Congress and the National Conference also celebrated the defeat of the BJP and criticized the Prime Minister and his policy towards Jammu as well as Kashmir. They hailed the BJP defeat for different reasons. The Panthers Party attributed the BJP defeat to what it called its "anti-people policies". It also said that the "BJP made several commitments to garner the people's support, but ditched them after coming into power both at the centre and in Jammu & Kashmir". The Congress and the National Conference described the BJP's defeat as Prime Minister Modi's "personal defeat". They also said the "defeat of the BJP in Bihar was the victory of secularism and democracy". The Bihari electorate replicated Delhi in Bihar. The Mahagathbandhan created a history of sorts by capturing 178 seats in the 243-member house. As far the BJP, its tally was only 53 and its strike rate was a little over 30 per cent. In 2010, the BJP had won 91 seats out of about 110 seats it contested and it was a massive victory. It will be seen if the BJP changes or not changes its approach towards the issues facing the nation, including the ignored people of Jammu province. It will get decimated if it continued to pursue the path it followed till the other day. There should be no doubt about it. As far as Jammu province is concerned, the BJP leadership has to sit up to understand why the people have turned against it in such a short span of time. |
