J&K fails to utilize CRF funds worth Rs 42 Cr | Centre withholds further funding | | Arun Singh Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 9: Union government has withheld further allocations to the J&K government under Central road fund after latter failed to utilize 42 cr. allocated for the year 2014-15 out of a total of 113 cr and submit its utilization certificates. Sources told Early Times that Government of India had sectioned Rs 113 crore for number of CRF projects in the state for the year of 2014-15 but due to lackadaisical attitude and poor performance of the state government in executing and utilizing the funds in prioritized projects, center stopped further funding. "State had submitted several projects to the centre government its sanction for current financial year but the proposals were declined due to poor performance of the state ostensibly giving huge blow to the state government," they said further adding that most of the projects under way in the state have come to halt to the inconvenience of the people. Sources in the PWD (R&B) Department told Early Times that at least 50 road projects, which were in progress across the State, had been badly affected with the non release of funds by the Government of India and left abandoned due to paucity of funds. They further said that with the unavailability of funds with the state, contractors who were engaged in execution of works had left the work midway due to non payment to them and the new projects which were scheduled to be started failed to take off. "With the incomplete works, which had been left abandoned, the cost escalation is likely to affect with each passing day and their completion will be difficult in near future," they said further adding that out of 50 withheld projects majority are being executed in Jammu province and unlikely to be completed with scarcity of funds. Lamenting State government for its incompetency to get released funds from Centre, sources said that the public money to the tune of crores which had already been utilized in works had been rendered unfruitful. "The state government has given the tag with non performing state by the center government for its poor performance in executing the various central sponsored schemes in the state as number schemes worth crores of rupees are without completion for the last many years," they added. |
