Cong to continue peaceful stir to aware masses: Sham Top party leaders among hundreds courted arrest | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 9: JK Pradesh Congress today took out a protest rally from Maharaja Hari Singh Park towards Civil Secretariat under scheduled call of 'Gherao Secretariat' to register their strong protest highlighting the poor governance of BJP-PDP alliance government. However, heavy deployment of police foiled the protest march when it reached near JP Chowk near General Bus stand in winter capital of state. Before reaching the civil secretariat complex the Congress leaders and workers courted arrest near bus stand as the district administration had imposed section 144 in and around Civil Secretariat Complex. Raising slogans against the BJP, the senior Congress leaders including JKPCC Chief G A Mir accompanied with former ministers Sham Lal Sharma, Raman Bhalla, former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, former minister Mula Ram, MLC Ravinder Sharma alongwith hundreds of party workers including women activists took out protest march and moved towards the Civil Secretariat Complex from protest venue. More than 100 congress workers and senior leaders courted arrest at JP Chowk below Gumat area and were shifted to district police lines in two busses. Addressing media persons before being court arrested, the Congress leaders accused the PDP-BJP alliance of ignoring the interests of common man and not focusing on the developmental issues. "We will keep protesting against Government's anti-people policies as being an opposition party, it is our duty to highlight their rights and wrongs," said Sr Vice president JKPCC and Former Minster Sham Sharma. Sharma said that the present alliance has failed to fulfill all its promises of providing corruption free, transparent and responsive govt to the people of the state. He said the state govt has failed to improve the power supply situation as well. "We have organised the rally and the 'Secretariat Gherao' to make people aware of failures of PDP-BJP government," said Sham Lal Sharma further adding, " Congress being in opposition fully understands its responsibility and thus will continue its peaceful protests to make people aware of wrongs of the government.' Commenting on BJP's defeat in Bihar, he said that this has sent a message across the nation that BJP is losing its ground. He however hailed the party's performance and termed it as revival of party and hoped that it will not only boost the Bihar Congress but also encourage the party activists across the nations that party is gaining firm ground again. |
