NC, Cong activists walk out of meeting called by Edu Deptt | Instead of DC Kishtwar, MoS Revenue presides | | Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Nov 9: National Conference and Congress activists on Monday walked out of a meeting called by Deputy Chief Education Officer Kishtwar to discuss and invite suggestions on proposed national policy on education. The activists walked out of the venue to protest against Minister of State for Revenue Sunil Sharma who presided over the meeting instead of Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar as had been circulated by the Education Department. As per the details available with Early Times, as soon as NC and Congress representatives came to know that the MoS Revenue would preside over the meeting instead of DC Kishtwar Ghulam Nabi Balwan, they left the venue. The activists termed the decision as against the norms and said the action of Education Department reflected indiscipline. Talking to Early Times, NC's district general secretary Kishtwar Shabir Ahmed Kamal said the Education Department had invited them and others to discuss the education policy. The invitation card had clearly mentioned that DC Kishtwar will preside over the meeting at 10.30 am. Kamal said that after waiting for nearly half an hour, the officials of Education department did not turn up and instead they were informed that MoS Revenue will preside over the meeting. He said that later NC along with Congress members present in the meeting stage walkout. "The Education Department should have made it clear that the MoS Revenue will preside over the meeting. The last minute change is against the protocol and decorum of the meetings," said Kamal. Similar views were expressed by senior Congress leader Mushtaq Hap who said that the Education Department was non-serious. |
