Pattan trauma hospital severely traumatized for over decade | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Nov 9: Despite a decade long wait, not a single patient has made entry to the ill fated trauma hospital in Pattan, as it has missed many deadlines till date. Local residents of Pattan said , “the construction of the hospital which happens to be the only one of its kind in North Kashmir was started in year 2002 after then Chief Minster Mufti Mohammad Sayeed laid its foundation stone and directed authorities to complete it by October 2008. Following the strict directions, the work on the project was going smoothly in a steady pace before the Congress-PDP coalition led by Azad collapsed in 2008 after which the work on hospital came to a grinding halt till October 2009, locals told early Times. In a midway the project was handed over to Jammu Kashmir Project Construction Corporation Limited (JKPCC) from Truck Terminal Division (TTD), the locals said. However locals claimed that the swapping of construction agencies didn’t make any change in pace of ongoing work. Locals allege that, “It took two years for the executing agency to construct the plinth of the centre, spread over 40 kanals of land at Babteng Pattan. Meanwhile Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today said that trauma hospital at Pattan Baramulla, which happens to be the only one of its kind in North Kashmir, is yet to be operational. President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan in a statement said that the lone trauma hospital in north Kashmir has been hanging in balance for more than a decade now and has missed many deadlines. The trauma cum sub district hospital spread over 40 kanals of land at Babteng Pattan which is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 23.56 crores is in limbo. The incessant delay in operation of trauma centre is holding up trauma care facilities for lakhs of people in North Kashmir. The construction of Pattan trauma hospital was started way back in 2002 and thirteen years have gone hospital is still not complete which speaks non-seriousness of concerned authorities towards crucial life saving assets. However local residents believe that, the hospital would be a major breakthrough in the field of healthcare and medical facilities for the people of North Kashmir. The irony is that since 2002 till 2015 Centre still waits completion, the construction which is notwithstanding recurring transfer of trauma patients, both with minor and major traumas to other hospitals of Kashmir valley, many of whom die in transit.
