Courts awards Rs 38 lakh as compensation to accident victim | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 3: Motor Accident Claims Tribunal today granted a compensation of Rs 38 44564 to a woman who suffered 'permanent disability' in an accident here in 2010. The tribunal directed that awarded amount to be deposited within a period of thirty days along with simple interest at the rate of 6% per annum from the 9 December 2010 (when petition was filled) till the final liquidation. Disposing of a petition by the woman-Tabasum Ahmad Kathwari, the tribunal held she has succeeded to prove her entitlement for compensation of Rs.38, 44,654. The presiding officer, Muhammad Yousuf Wani also held that uncontrolled flow of traffic for accidents and asked government to come up with policy for management and regulation of traffic movement in the state. The tribunal directed the Regional Manager Shri Ram General Insurance Company Ltd to deposit the awarded amount within a period of thirty days along with simple interest at the rate of 6% per annum from the 9 December 2010 (when petition was filled) till the final liquidation. Before parting with the petition, the judge expressed serious concern over "alarming increase" in traffic flow and asked the government to come up with a policy of its management. "Alarming increase in transport flow has made the life of common man miserable so much so that if the situation goes unchecked people will prefer to move on foot then to think of motor vehicles," the Tribunal said. |
