Raj Bhawan gate closed for public, easy access to Hari Palace blocked | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 3: Raj Bhawan has closed the main entrance gate from the Panjtirthi side for the general public besides restricting entry for the morning and evening walkers. Even the locals who live in Panjtirthi and in its adjoining areas have to take Ambphalla route to reach the hotel and the restaurant which are adjacent to the Raj Bhawan. Such is the security that even children and toddlers are not allowed to cross the main entrance gate. Security at the gate cites verbal orders of Governor N.N. Vohra for having restricted entry from main gate for one and all. However, when Early Times called up PRO to the Governor Vishesh Pal Mahajan, he said that no such order has been issued by them. "I do not know anything about main gate having been closed for the commoners. We have issued no such order since we do not deal with the security. I will talk to the SSP (Security) Raj Bhawan to find out the factual position," Mahajan said. He maintained that entry is restricted inside Raj Bhawan but no one is stopped from entering the gate from the Panjtirthi side. However, security men in plain clothes standing guard on the gate on being again asked said that the orders have been issued by their SSP in-charge. "We have been told not to allow anyone not even morning and evening walkers to enter from the main gate. No private vehicle is allowed inside from this side," said the police personnel at the gate. On being repeatedly told that no such order has been issued by the Governor's office, he said that the SSP has issued the verbal instructions and they have to abide by that. "We have no option but to do what our seniors have instructed us," said the police personnel. Whatever the reasons may be but the closing of gate for the locals as well as outsiders who either go to the hotel and restaurant or are regular morning and evening walkers is being criticised by one and all. A local Ramesh Sharma said "This is insensible on the part of Raj Bhawan to shut gates for the commoners and tell them to take a longer route for reaching Hari Niwas Palace. They should revisit this new order and ensure that adequate security measures are otherwise put in place while ensuring that commoners are not unnecessarily stopped from walking off and on to a place where they have been going since their childhood days." He added that security may be a reason but even then, this makes no sense to close gates which are easily accessible to those living in Panjtirthi and its adjoining areas. He further pointed out that another way is shifting Raj Bhawan out of Panjtirthi area. "If they have not still paid the rent to the owners, the owners should better tell Governor's office to see some other accommodation in a place where commoners do not have any access at all," added Ramesh Sharma. Another local Bishan Dass said that even autorickshaws primarily meant for ferrying school children are not allowed to cross over to Ambphalla. "This is pathetic sense of security. I am unable to understand how they work," added Dass. SSP Raj Bhawan Ajit Lal Dogra who has issued this new order could not be contacted for his comments. |
