DIG's "misleading" property statement | While plots owned by him are worth crores, he falsely claims he bought them for a few thousand rupees | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 3: In a property statement filed by him, a DIG (deputy inspector general of police) has "misled" his seniors and the State Home Department by falsely claiming that he purchased plots in the city's posh localities for a few thousands rupees. This is not correct as the plots in reality are worth crores, according to police sources. He hid the actual cost of the plots for two reasons. First, to escape the radar of anti-graft agencies and second, to invest the alleged "black money" he was having without being noticed by any one at the police headquarters and the home department. Take the example of the 18 marlas of plot he owns in the posh Chhani Himmat housing colony. In his property statement, he has shown to have purchased it for Rs 1.10 lakh, ie for Rs 6,000 per marla which is unbelievable. For this cost, one will not get land even in a far-off Jammu village. In his latest property statement, he had again made a false claim that the market value of this plot was now Rs 40 lakh, sources informed. He owns another plot at Sainik Colony and claims to have purchased it some time back for Rs 63,000. In his latest property statement, he said its cost had now risen to Rs 25 lakh, which was untrue, sources said and added that the plot cost was actually over Rs 1 cr. "He also divulges in the statement that the cost of the plots, he had purchased at Chowadi and at a prime location in Samba for a few thousand rupees, was in lakhs now," the sources added. Sources said though the DIG, a shrewd real estate investor, had successfully hid the actual price of the plots owned by him to ensure that the "watchful" eyes of the state vigilance organisation and other anti-graft agencies "take no notice of his small investments". He was at present posted in a wing of the state police. He has also headed some districts in the region as SSP.
