Agitated over bovine smuggling locals torch two vehicles, stage protest | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri. Dec 3: People of Kalakote of Rajouri district today set on fire two Tavera Cars and blocked Jammu-Kalakote-Rajouri road for more than over five hours against alleged bovine smuggling bid by some valley based bovine smugglers and against police failure to stop their activities. "Bovine smugglers have been identified as Mohd Sharief, Mohd Saleem both resident of Jammu, Asif Bhat r/o Lal Chowk Srinagar, Mehraj-ud-Din , Nazir Ahmed & Umar Imitiaz all residents of Beerwah (Budgam) in Kashmir Valley, police sources said. Sources said that in the wee hours of morning six bovine smugglers were taking the two cows and three calves (anesthetized) and packed in two Tavera Cars bearing registration NosJK04C-1309 and JK01B-9009 to Kashmir Valley via Rajouri-Thanamandi-Mughal road route." "All six smugglers were arrested by the police on the spot," said a police source, adding, "they were booked under appropriate sections." Sources said that when the smugglers reached near Potha police check post they noticed police party on the road and they immediately turned their vehicles back and escaped towards Jigni village. "Police gave a hot chase to smugglers and also informed the concerned SHO besides they also sought help of the people of the area, they said. "Before the smugglers could abandon the sedated animals near village Jigni, the people reached to the spot however four of them managed to escape while two were surrounded by the people, source said adding, " the agitated people set the vehicles on fire after rescuing the animals. Later people held a mass protest demonstration at Dayala and also blocked Jammu-Kalakote -Rajouri road at about 9.30 am raising slogans against the police. People also raised slogans against Transport Minister who is also local MLA alleging that the government has failed in every field including to curb the menace of bovine smuggling. Additional SP, Rakesh Kumar and Balkrishan Panotra SDM rushed to the area and assured the people to arrest the culprit and to book them under law. Later a search was also conducted in the forest and other 4 smugglers were also apprehended by the police. In this matter police have registered a case FIR No and booked in case FIR No63/15 under sections 307/353/153/435 & 188 RPC and 3 PCA reportedly against the mob as well as against the smugglers. |
