Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 5: The traffic policemen posted outside Jammu Airport have virtually turned into lame-ducks as they have been facing intimidation at the hands of influential receivers, who refused to follow traffic rules. Whenever any flight lands at Jammu airport, long que of private vehicles can be easily found outside the entrance eagerly waiting to receive their guests. "Every receiver is eager to receive his/her dear one only at the entrance and these people don't bother about the traffic jams, being caused by their arbitrary parking", a resident of the area said. Another person, who is running a shop there, said, "Even though no-parking boards are placed there by the Traffic police but the people never hesitate to park their vehicle in no-parking zone", he said, adding that intimidation of traffic police personnel deputed there, was a routine affair. He said that many times, traffic police personnel were found requesting the car-owners to park their vehicles, a few yards away from entrance but all in vain. "Already there are only three traffic police personnel deputed there and sometimes, they dared to ask these arrogant receivers to streamline the traffic. Many times, these personnel get threats of suspension, action at the hands of higher officials, due to influence enjoyed by majority of affluent receivers", he said. Other shopkeeper said, "Fault lies with some of the arrogant, affluent receivers. An officer of Inspector rank and constables cannot dare these influential receivers but if some higher official takes an initiative, then only some improvement can happen," said Raman Sharma, a commuter from Miran Sahib. The SSP Traffic, Mohan Lal said that the suggestion of public would be taken care of and a drive would be launched in near future and action against the violators would be taken.
