Delhi yet to be impressed by Sharif's lamb like innocence | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 5: It is a case of counting chickens before they are hatched for Pakistan which has been making consistent and persistent pleas during the last over one year to India for reopening the channels of dialogue. Anything that is peculiar about these pleas is Pakistan's silence on whether Kashmiri separatists be involved in the proposed parleys or kept away from the bilateral talks. It has done so to encourage India to reopen the doors for dialogue as Islamabad knows that telling New Delhi to involve separatists in talks could prove a red rag to the bull. And during the last over one year New Delhi has not bothered to respond to Islamabad's pleas because the former has laid a precondition for the resumption of dialogue with Pakistan. New Delhi has plainly told Islamabad that it should initiate steps so that the soil of Pakistan was not used for exporting terror. Earlier, New Delhi would insist on punishing perpetrators of the 2008 Mumbai terrorist strike in which over 166 people were killed. That New Delhi was critical of Islamabad's free rope given to these perpetrators is the result of freedom of movement and speech to Hafiz Saeed, main person involved in organizing the Mumbai mayhem, has been allowed to enjoy in Pakistan. At one stage Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had announced that he was ready for holding talks with India without any pre-condition. In fact those who matter in India laughed over Nawaz Sharif's announcement because if for the resumption of dialogue India had the right to set preconditions. And by announcing that he was ready to hold talks with India unconditionally was an attempt on his part at projecting himself as innocent as a lamb. But New Delhi was not prepared to buy anything from Nawaz Sharif, the lamb. And now Pakistan does not only want resumption of talks but it favours result oriented parleys .Pakistan does not believe in discussion for the sake of discussion. Islamabad has said the country wants result oriented dialogue with India to resolve all outstanding issues including Kashmir. "We want to reiterate that the country wants result oriented dialogue with India to resolve all outstanding issues including Kashmir and promote bilateral relations," Pakistan's Foreign Office Spokesman Qazi Khalilullah has said. What seems to have motivated Pakistan to seek result oriented talks has been the recent brief meeting between Narendra Modi and Nawaz Sharif in Paris. Khalilullah has said they were waiting how to move forward after the meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in Paris. Modi and Sharif had a brief meeting during which they warmly held hands before sitting down for a chat, with the Indian side describing the encounter as a "brief exchange of courtesies" but Pakistanis terming it as a "good" meeting. It could have been a good meeting if Modi had agreed to reopen the channels of dialogue. Yes, Modi may have favoured resolving various issues through talks without setting the stage or dates for the dialogue. But Islamabad wants the process of dialogue to be resumed so that it can convince the developed nations, including the US, that Pakistan has always been in favour of settling bilateral problems through the process of dialogue. While doing so it has forgotten to say anything about the precondition laid down by India for the resumption of stalled talks and on ending export of terror to India, particularly to Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan knows that whenever it has to face India's demand for ending export of terror it should adopt the principle of silence is golden. |
