POK Assembly resolution an eye opener for Farooq | | | It is time President National Conference,Dr Farooq Abdullah, who has, of late, become a supporter of porous border between the two Kashmirs, take cognizance of the anti-India activities being carried out across the LOC. In this context the former Chief Minister should take note of the resolution adopted by the Pakistan occupied Kashmir Legislative Assembly in which it urged the international community to initiate measures for forcing India and its forces to stop human rights violations in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. If this is the situation across the LOC will Farooq Abdullah expect peaceful coexistence between people on either side of the divided Kashmir? Will Farooq Abdullah ever expect boys from Kashmir to marry girls in Occupied Kashmir or the vice versa? Possibilities of such a development seem to be bleak because reports indicate that the resolution adopted by the Assembly in Muzaffarabad had been adopted under the clear direction from Islamabad. In fact Islamabad feels that its voice is no longer heard by the international community whenever it make a strong plea for the implementation of the UN resolutions on Kashmir which alone could settle the Kashmir dispute and hence let its voice receive support from the elected representatives of occupied Kashmir. It is in this context that Pakistan- occupied Kashmir Legislative Assembly during its winter session in Muzaffarabad has "strongly condemned Indian state terrorism and human rights violations by Indian forces in Jammu and Kashmir." Through the resolution the assembly urged international community to take serious notice of these violations. The House adopted seven resolutions in which it called upon European Union, OIC and international human rights organizations to persuade India to stop alleged genocide of Kashmiris, the House also strongly condemned illegal detention and arrests of Hurriyat leaders and activists in the Kashmir valley. And those who supported the resolution had not bothered to read carefully the genesis of the turmoil and violence in the Kashmir valley. If the security forces are forced to launch operations these are launched only against Pakistan trained militants. Do the members of the Assembly in Muzaffarabad treat killing of infiltrators and militants in the boirder areas of Jammu and Kashmir "genocide and human rights violations"? If they do so they are totally mistaken because most of those killed in operations launched by the Indian security forces are militants and not civilians. The resolution has condemned what it calls illegal detention of and arrest of Hurriyat leaders. When these Hurriyat leaders try to destabilise peace and political stability is it not the duty of the elected Government to punish them? Yes for preventing peace to get derailed the Government has to initiate measures to restrict their movement. Well Jammu and Kashmir has remained part of India since 1947 and between 1947 and 1989 neither Islamabad nor Muzaffarabad had any grievance against India and its forces because Kashmir had become a symbol of peace, pluralism and secularism. Why things have witnessed a major change right from 1989? If there has been any drift in the spirit of pluralism and secularism in the Kashmir valley it has been the result of Pakistan backed insurgency. Pakistan provided arms training facilities to boys from Kashmir. These boys, after completing their training in handling of arms and explosives, were pushed into Jammu and Kashmir with sopjisticated weapons. And once they were within the state of Jammu and Kashmir they cherished kicking up scenes of death and destruction. Since then there has been no peace, no economic development. It is a war between militants supported by Pakistan, its Army and the ISI, and the Indian security forces. In the war even the innocent people suffer. The Occupied Assembly talks about alleged genocide of people by the Indian security forces but it is silent on the genocide being carried out by militants. Why this partiality? Possibly this is the only weapon it wants to try to use against India. And those who have supported the resolution should know that it is the duty of the security forces to establish peace in Jammu and Kashmir. |
