Block official, RDD engineer threaten contractor for exposing "corrupt" practices 12/6/2015 11:34:04 PM M S Nazki Early Times Reoprt Mendhar, Dec 6: A local contractor who has executed construction work in Harmulla, Gursain under MGNREGA, is alleged to have been threatened by an official of Mendhar block and a RDD engineer for issuing statement to media regarding corruption in MGNREGA works. Talking to Early Times, contractor Mohammad Aslam said he had executed a work worth Rs 1 lakh in Harmulla, Gursai in 2014-15 under MGNREGA but the payment was not paid in full. "After my December 5 statement to media that the officials were demanding commission from me to release the payment, I am being threatened by a block official and a RDD engineer," he added. He said as the higher authorities had initiated an inquiry in the matter, the two officials were pressurising him to issue another statement to media, rebutting his previous statement. The contractor alleged that some officials in the block office and RDD were looting the state exchequer with both the hands as there was no agency to keep a check on the MGNREGA works in the area. Poonch sarpanch Devender Tondon said that there was over Rs 35 lakh liability on the department regarding the non-payment of bills to contractors. He alleged that panchayat members were not being invited while finalising plans as regards various activities of construction in their panchayats.
