Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Dec 6: The 135 ft high wall being constructed on the International Border in Jammu is expected to be huge project, official sources said. It will require 12869 kanals and 15 Marlas of land which has already been identified.
Sources in state's revenue ministry said the security 'bund' will pass through 118 villages. In 72 villages of Jammu district, the land identified is 8214 kanals. There are 29 villages of Samba where the security set up has informed the civil administration of its requirement of 3056 kanals of land. Kathua is the only district where only 17 villages are involved and where 1599 kanals of land have been identified.
Official sources said the identified land is under various stages of notification and acquisition. However, so far only 24 mutations have taken place.
Sources added the acquisition of land would require a whopping amount. Of the Rs 12 Crore that the Union Home Ministry has released to the civil administration, most of it has been utilized.
Kathua district which has the least land involvement in the huge security project has projected its resource demand at Rs 12.91 Crore.
The project is aimed at creating a physical barrier between India and Pakistan. The border is already fenced and floodlit. With the huge embankment, another deterrent is being created against infiltration. Officials said part of the land being acquired currently has already been used under fencing sometime back.
