Sasan seeks setting up of Minority Commission | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 6 : Provincial Vice President National Conference Gurdeep Singh Sasan on Sunday castigated PDP-BJP coalition for ignoring promises made to the people, saying much hype had been created over setting up of Minority Commission but nothing has been done so far. Interacting with representatives of various Sikh organisations at Preet Nagar here this morning, the Provincial Vice President sought immediate measures to be taken for putting up the Minority Commission in place in consonance with the model formulated by National Minority Commission. He said legislative measures were imperative in this regard. He said that the present dispensation was playing with the sentiments of the minorities and PoK refugees and wondered why the recommendations made by Omar Abdullah led government with regard to payment of one-time compensation of Rs 25 lakhs each to the P0K displaced facilities were pushed to backburner. He said these recommendations are needed to be pursued with the Centre for immediate approval, as the PoK refugees have suffered immensely. On the occasion, the Sikh representatives raised various issues which include formation of PoK Refugees Welfare and Development Board, reservation for PoK refugees in the government jobs and professional institutions and release of adequate funds for maintenance of various utility services in refugee bastis and camps. They also sought immediate road upgradation up to the MBS Engineering College. He flayed the government for its total failure on all the fronts, saying this has strengthened the public perception about the present dispensation having gone in silent mode and totally paralysed. He said the people were suffering and problems faced to them were accumulating with each passing day. |
