Srinagar, Dec 6: Copy of service book of a Government employee can only be provided under Right to Information Act (RTI) by the Public Information Officer (PIO) when he is satisfied that the said information involves larger public interest. The J&K State Information Commission (SIC) issued this order while disposing off a second appeal filed by a retired Government teacher after he was denied the said information by the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Shopian .
Details available with Early Times reveal that one Abdul Qayoom Khan a resident of Nishat Srinagar filed a second appeal before the State Information Commission (SIC) on 09.10.2015 stating that he requested CEO Shopian vide RTI application dated 01.07.2015 for providing information, which mostly pertained to his service record. The PIO according to Khan failed to provide him the information within stipulated time. Khan alleges that CEO Shopian asked him to deposit Rs 12,000/- without mentioning any account number.
