Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 9: The state vigilance commission (SVC), comprising chief vigilance commissioner Kuldeep Khoda and vigilance commissioners - Dr R K Jerath and Gousul Nisa Jeelani -- has issued a notice to additional deputy commissioner (district vigilance officer), Kupwara, directing him to show cause as to why the proceedings for the non-compliance of its orders shall not be initiated against him. Earlier, the commission, while hearing two complaints against the sarpanch of Sohipora, Kupwara, sarpanch of Chogal-B and BDO of Chogal, Handwara, for the alleged misuse of their official positions and misappropriation of government funds, directed the ADC (DVO), Kupwara, to conduct on the spot inquiry in presence of complainants, sarpanchs and members of the concerned panchayats as well as BDO concerned and reports thereof be submitted to the commission. Despite the repeated directives, the ADC did not submit the requisite reports even after the passage of quite a long time. Accordingly, he was asked to appear in person before the commission along with required reports, but, exhibiting lackadaisical approach he neither submitted the reports nor he appeared before the commission, thereby prima-facie revealing that the officer is deliberately concealing the facts and protecting the officials allegedly involved in corrupt activities, according to official sources. The SVC, taking a serious view of the inaction and lackadaisical approach of the ADC, made recommendations to the chief secretary that non-compliance of its orders by the ADC, having an effect of shielding and encouraging the culprits allegedly involved in corrupt practices, be reflected in his APR of the current year. -(JNF) |
