JU's VC did not avail official accommodation to save HRA

jammu, Dec 9: To save his deduction of House Rent Allowance (HRA), the Vice chancellor University of Jammu did not avail official accommodation being provided by the university.
However 'austerity' is being adopted by the VC is causing huge monetary lose to the university, as official vehicle allotted to his runs 40 kms day on an average.
Information obtained under RTI revealed that the VC has not availed any residential accommodation provided by the university till date. "The vice chancellor is drawing HRA @ 20 percent of basic pay plus grade pay as admissible under rules and further the VC has not availed any residential accommodation provided by the University till date", the RTI revealed.
The information available with ET further indicts that the official vehicle allotted to VC runs 40 kms on an average per day. "Official car allotted to VC, Ambassador Car number JK02AP-1306 on an average runs around 40 kms per day", copy of log book provided under RTI reveals.
It pertinent to mention here that the VC has his own private house in Channi area, and distance between the campus and Channi is not more than five kms, and up and down the vehicle should run not more than 10 or maximum 15 kms a day. But, if information provided under RTI is true where vehicles is running?
The RTI further divulged in VC's secretariat alone, more than five hundred rupees is being spent for refreshment daily. "No personal expenditure has been incurred on Prof R D Sharma. However, the details of financial expenditure incurred on account of refreshment served in day to day official meeting held in the VC secretariat is Rs 142,693 for 305 days", RTI revealed.
Moreover the expenditure incurred for mobile phone and landline number being used by the VC was more than 55 thousands rupees for 11 months. "Since November 2014 to September 2015 bills for mobile and land line connections for VC is Rs 57387", the documents revealed.
