Jammu, Dec 9: Police have reportedly identified the kingpin behind the infamous Akhnoor sex scandal, Police sources told Early Times on Wednesday.
They said the victim girl who was allegedly kidnapped stated that a woman distributed her mobile phone number to local businessman and youth. "She also introduced me with some of the big wigs," the victim said.
Meanwhile, police also added section 376 (Rape) of RPC as prior to this police was only investigating the kidnapping angle.
Five persons have been detained till date while hunt to trace three others is on. Their names were disclosed by the victim before the court after she was brought back to Jammu. Police said that name of a youth leader has also surfaced in the scandal. "Police raided his house but he managed to escape," sources added.
Most of the arrested persons are those who are running business in Akhnoor and Jammu city areas.
Earlier, police resorted to dilly dally approach to secure the arrests and it was after the matter was brought to the notice of the senior most police officers through electronic and print media, police geared up the investigation.
The scam surfaced when Punjab Police sounded alert to the Jammu police alleging high profile names of politicians and bureaucrats of Jammu to be involved in a major sex scandal. During the preliminary investigations, the police have identified scores of reputed persons of the Jammu city.
This minor girl hails from Akhnoor and was caught under suspicious circumstances with a Punjabi youth in Pathankot. During interrogation by Punjab Police, the girl broke down and revealed that she was being exploited by these big names of the states.
During the preliminary investigations, girl revealed that she was living at Pacca Danga. She told investigators how she landed in the sex trade and gave the names of people who allegedly exploited her.
Though the police are tight-lipped over the names of persons involved but the sources said that the girl has given graphic account of how she was raped repeatedly by at least 20 persons, whom she can identify.
