BJP reneges on Article 370 promise? | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 9: While Jammuites have grown skeptical about the claims of the BJP since it became part of the PDP-led coalition Government in March, certain facts underlying its demeanor are more disturbing than what meets the eye. For example, the promise about abolition of Article 370, which has been the priority insignia of the party in Jammu and Kashmir, has lost in oblivion. Nearly two years ago when the then BJP Prime Ministerial candidate used to throng Jammu and sojourn here , his dialogue used to be 'holding a debate on Art 370" . Today since promises about revocation of Art 370 have been almost diminished in the State, the thrown out BJP stalwart Hari Om spills the beans. "It was me only who was entrusted with the job to design the manifesto for election in Jammu and Kashmir which contained abolition of Art 370 on the top priority," said Hari Om, adding that immediately before the Modi wave swung into action, the National general secretary of the Party Ram Madhav took on the reins of the State in clandestine connivance with PDP to design the 'agenda of alliance' in which it was clearly mentioned that Art 370 could not be abolished. "At that time BJP had sensed its victory from Jammu region and the party manipulated the whole affair by sliding down the BJP election manifesto and instead released the "agenda of alliance ' which was crafted by Ram Madhav, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti," said Hari Om while talking to Early Times. He said, "My expulsion from the party was only based on my integrity with Jammu which the BJP never wanted and I was shown the door." Hari Om also mentioned the November 14, 2014 comment of BJP's Kashmir based Heena Bhat who had categorically said, "If the Article was touched, it would force Kashmiris to pick up guns again". It was immediately thereafter that to woo the Kashmiris that Central BJP decided to take the U-turn and idea of incorporating Art 370 into alliance was dropped. The former BJP leader also said that since taking up of power in Centre and State, BJP has shelved many of its ideologies that have started reflecting on the national scene also. "Bihar is the recent living example. And now Karnataka, UP and West Bengal will also show up its real face. BJP to clinch power by all means has stooped to great low and sooner it will be history in Jammu and Kashmir also," said Hari Om. It is pertinent to mention here that Bhartiya Janta Party has already lost its stature in Jammu and Kashmir as people here have understood its appeasing policy to PDP. "Not only Art 370, but many other issues which have been the pivotal points of BJP to remain as a force in reckoning in Jammu now has made it a scapegoat and its waterloos nearing," said Hari Om. |
