Protesting labourers disperse, suspended Vaishno Devi yatra resumes | | | Early Times Report
jammu, Dec 9: The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine pilgrimage resumed after around three hours following labourers' protest against battery car service from Ban Ganga to Adh Kuwari was called off. "Hundereds of labourers comprising ponywalas and pithus this morning assembled at Darshani Deodi and protested against the Shrine Board authorities," official sources here said. The labourers were protesting in black and white against the Shrine Board authorities demanding clearance on the use of new track for either battery car service or ponywalas and pithus. An official said the protest broke out against starting battery car service from Ban Ganga to Adh Kuwari from new track. "New track was constructed to start battery car service from Ban Ganga to Adh Kuwari," he said adding that earlier the battery car service was being provided to the pilgrims only from Adh Kuwari to Bhawan but keeping in view about ailed and old aged pilgrims, it was decided to start the service also from Ban Ganga to Adh Kuwari for which new track was constructed. Meanwhile asserting that their work will get affected once the battery car service starts from Ban Ganga and there should be clear directions in written from the authorities that either battery car will run on the track or the labourers, they blocked the yatra at Darshani Deodi following which it was suspended by the Shrine Board authorities. However, senior officials of the Board and the Police rushed to the spot and pacified them after which protesting labourers dispersed and assembled in Katra town and yatra resumed. Nearly one crore pilgrims from across the country every year visit the cave shrine situated in the Trikuta Hills to pay obeisance. |
