Rains, snowfall predicted in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 9 The MET department has today predicted rains in plains and snowfall in higher reaches of Kashmir over the next 24 hours while the minimum temperature stayed above the freezing point in most parts of the Valley last night. "Light rains predicted at isolated places in Kashmir over the next 24 hours while there are chances of snowfall in the higher reaches of the Valley during this period," a MET official said. The famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir was the only place to register sub-zero temperature last night with minimum temperature settling at minus 2.6 degrees Celsius, he said. Kupwara town was the second coldest place with a minimum temperature of 0.3 degrees Celsius. In the rest of the Valley including the summer capital of Srinagar, the minimum temperature hovered around 2 degrees Celsius, the MET official said. Meanwhile, the Divisional Administration in Kashmir said, it was prepared to meet the eventuality of a snowfall in the Valley. "We have sufficient stocks of essentials while the men and machinery is ready to deal with snowfall," Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Asgar Samoon said. |
