Construction of bathrooms cum toilet complex | Officials, contractors accused of using substandard materials | | Majid Malik Early Times Report
BHADERWAH, Dec 9: Despite having specifications and standards for all construction material to assure quality and strength, sub-standard material is being used in the construction of bathrooms-cum-toilet complex at new Bus Stand Kotli ,Bhaderwah under the nose of Urban Local Bodies officials of Engineering wing. Local people here have complained that substandard materials were being used for the construction of bathrooms-cum-toilet complex which is going to construct under Sanitation scheme of Urban Local Bodies worth Rs 16 lakh .The sources further said that the development works executed by these contractors start crumbling immediately after the construction while the competent authorities are issuing NOCs to such contractors without confirming and checking the quality of the material according to approved standard for work defined under the relevant laws. They said that most contractors are using substandard material in connivance with the higher authorities or they are doing so deliberately under the shelter of some influential persons and with the support of political figures that are awarding NOCs on the completion of the projects because most of the contractors are their blue-eyed. People alleged that the contractors are doing this unlawful practice because they know quality of work of these small projects is rarely checked by the authorities concerned. Residents also alleged that the laxity on the part of the authorities was responsible for substandard quality work. They appealed to Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh and other higher authorities of Urban Local Bodies to take action against such contractors who are not only minting money by using substandard material but are also deceiving the government in the name of quality construction work. |
