Patwaris continue strike for second day | | | Early Times Report
jammu, Dec 9: The work remained paralyzed in all Patwar Halqas across the State as Patwaris continued the strike for the second consecutive day today in support of their 11 point charter of demands. The call for strike was given by All J&K Patwar Association to press the government to settle its long pending demands. The Association alleged that despite bringing the demands in the notice of the Government from time to time since January this year no steps were taken to settle them with the result they were forced to give a call for two days strike. Expressing concern over callousness of the Government the Association accused it of turning a blind eye to genuine demands of the Patwaris in the State who are the backbone of Revenue Department. They warned to intensify the strike in case immediate steps were not taken to settle the problems of Patwaris in the State. The Association held protest demonstrations at district headquarters on December 8 and nine and took the Revenue authorities to task for showing a callous attitude towards them. In a memorandum submitted to Government the Patwaris are demanding release of pending salaries and stipend for one and a half year in favour of Patwaris some of whom are at the verge of starvation, bringing Patwar halqas at par with Panchayat Halqas as was proposed during the establishment of administrative units. They alleged even the service books of BOPEE have not been prepared till date. The other demands highlighted by the Association included conducting of DPC of qualified Girdawars who are already discharging their duties as Naib Tehsildars, appointment ofPatwaris who have qualified the PSC as Naib tehsildars, filling up of posts of Naib Tehsildars among the qualified Girdawars who have qualified the PSC, Sanctioning of posts of Circle Girdawars in newly created administrative units, revenue generated by stamp duty be deposited in Revenue head 0029, restoration of 20 percent share to Patwars from the revenue generated by him, filling up of the posts of trained staff and absorption of settlement assistants as Patwaris. The Association warned the Government that in case of further delay it will be forced to intensify agitation. |
