Palyarni people lock PDD office | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Jan 12: Alleging that they were without electricity for the past three months, the people of Palyarni in Darhal Monday locked the main gate of the PDD's divisional office and raised slogans. They said when their repeated representations to the authorities concerned yielded no results, they were forced to lock the PDD (power development department) office. Several rural and far flung areas of Rajouri district are facing acute shortage of electricity, making their lives difficult. Mohammad Mushtaq, Altaf Hussain and some other residents of Palyarni claimed that for the last three months, they had been taking rounds of the offices of PDD and civil administrations but no one bothered to mitigate their problem. "For the last three months, there is no power to our village due to some technical fault but the concerned officials have not bothered to solve the problem. Final examinations of our children are approaching nearer, but their studies are getting badly affected in the absence of electricity," said Mushtaq Ahmed. "Without power, the water supply schemes have also got defunct and wheat grinding machines are also not functioning as a result of which people are buying atta from the market at higher prices," he added. Soon after the people today locked the PDD office, executive engineer Umesh Parihar, along with the concerned staff, rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters, assuring them of early restoration of electricity to their area. Though people dispersed peacefully, they warned the PDD authorities to launch a massive protest if electricity was not restored to the village at the earliest. Meanwhile, inhabitants of Budhal and Neerojal areas also held protests at their respective places against the erratic power supply to their areas. |
